Celebrating Women in Construction Week
For years, construction has been seen as a man’s world but that’s quickly changing. While in 2016, women comprised only 9% of the construction workforce, that number has grown every year to 11.5% in 2023.
Women are managing job sites, leading major projects, and running successful companies, proving that skill, determination, and expertise have no gender!
As we celebrate Women in Construction Week (March 2-8, 2025), we’re shining a light on a few incredible women who are breaking barriers, redefining the industry, and inspiring the next generation to build a stronger future.
Jacquie Nieves - RowCal Director of Maintenance, Colorado
10 years in the industry
For Jacquie, the best part of her RowCal role working in construction is the ability to take something ordinary and turn it into something extraordinary. Whether it’s a renovation project or new construction, she loves seeing a vision come to life.
But as a woman in the industry, she recognizes the challenges that still exist. While she has never struggled to find opportunities herself, she knows that some women still face skepticism and bias when competing for jobs.
Her approach? Let your knowledge do the talking! In construction, skills and expertise matter far more than anything else.
⭐ Her advice for women entering the field is to prioritize their physical and mental well-being.
The job can be demanding, but with the right mindset and preparation, women can thrive in any role.
Jacquie also believes in the power of education and visibility, as the more we highlight women in construction, the more we inspire the next generation!
RowCal Vendor: Lisa Pizzo – President, Prep-Rite Coatings & Contracting, LLC
16 years in the industry
Lisa didn’t just step into the construction industry, she built her own place in it. As the owner of a successful contracting business that RowCal partners with, she’s seen firsthand how much the industry has evolved.
While she’s faced with surprise when people learn that she owns a construction company, Lisa is quick to emphasize that talented women are thriving in this space.
⭐ The key, she says, is pushing past outdated stereotypes and proving through action that women belong in construction leadership.
Her advice? Take the leap! There’s no limit to what women can achieve in this industry. Success comes from taking risks, believing in yourself, and never backing down from a challenge.
Lisa feels her biggest accomplishment is earning her contractor’s license - a testament to years of hard work and dedication!
Lindsey Randt – RowCal’s Asset Management Coordinator
12 years in the industry
Lindsey may not have planned for a career in construction, but the industry quickly became home here at RowCal.
She thrives behind the scenes, ensuring the financial and logistical side of projects runs smoothly!
But being a woman in a male-dominated industry hasn’t always been easy.
At times, she’s felt underestimated, but she’s never let that define her. Instead, she’s built her reputation by showing up, speaking up, and proving that she belongs.
Her advice to other women is to know your worth!
⭐ Whether it’s negotiating salary, setting boundaries, or pushing for career growth, confidence is key.
She also encourages women to keep learning. Sitting in on meetings, asking questions, and expanding your knowledge will open doors and earn respect in ANY role!
Paving the Way for Future Generations
