Political Signage in an HOA in MN

A client spoke with Danielle McDonough, CMCA, AMS - Director of Client Experience at RowCal about political signs being allowed in the neighbors common areas/lawns.

Many associations restrict signage being allowed within the community with the exception of For Sale signs.  During any election time frame, we often receive reports of political signs being up and are asked if we can make residents remove them, regulate sizing, etc.  Minnesota Statutes outline that β€œAll noncommercial signs of any size may be posted in any number beginning 46 days before the state primary in a state general election year until ten days following the state general election.”  Specifically for the 2020 election year, this would allow for a resident to post a sign of any size in their yard from June 26, 2020, to November 13, 2020.

Guidance for your HOA Political Signage Policy

It is common practice that associations outline a policy on political signage that clarifies sizes that are allowed and the style of signs that are allowed - such as a step in style stake sign.  If you are looking for guidance on setting up a signage policy, reach out to RowCal today!
